February 2015 new poems

05 Mar

These new poems were posted to Twitter in February 2015.

here to the horizon
countless tons of snow
waiting for the sun
to slowly set it free . . .
to let it rise again

bird feeder
seeds almost gone
I top it off again

for the price of a restaurant dinner
this 40–pound bag of wild bird seed
will feed a multitude

my friends
who never came home
from Vietnam . . .
I remember them
another duty of love

– – – – – – – – – – –

shrieks, sirens
the mother’s wild eyes
blood in the gutter

– – – – – – – – – – –

it’s early morning here
noon somewhere else
but now everywhere on earth

cold white morning
starting up my foggy mind
hot black coffee . . .

draft-dodger now
middle-aged explains himself
to the war veteran
seeking absolution—
looking in the wrong place

Incomplete Thots...

"As things are, and as fundamentally they must always be, poetry is not a career, but a mug's game. No honest poet can ever feel quite sure of the permanent value of what he has written: He may have wasted his time and messed up his life for nothing." T.S.Eliot
