March 2015 new poems

05 Apr

These new poems were posted to Twitter in March 2015.

a plastic box
just a few pounds of ashes
and an empty leash . . .

floating downstream
nameless ashes . . .
all the same, I mourn

first time touching
my rough stubbled chin
baby’s eyes widen

suddenly there
amid dark pine branches
owl’s yellow eyes

leaving no footprints
in the hard-packed sand
wheelchair lady

his tears fall
into his grandson’s grave
late winter rain

bare earth and naked trees
the snow protects
their modesty

even the old pond
has its inky cloud—

peaceful fishing
just a bobber on my line
no harm, no foul, no fish

four days ’til Spring
breathless sound of an orchestra
tuning up

“Only the dead
have seen the end of war.”
oh, heartbreaking truth!

— Quote from George Santayana, 1924

Spring’s opening day
fresh snow covers new leaves
but leaves will last longer

Incomplete Thots...

"As things are, and as fundamentally they must always be, poetry is not a career, but a mug's game. No honest poet can ever feel quite sure of the permanent value of what he has written: He may have wasted his time and messed up his life for nothing." T.S.Eliot
