HAIKU NOIR sample poems from FIRE BLOSSOMS

26 Feb

A sample of my haiku noir from my collection, Fire Blossoms: The Birth of Haiu Noir:

Haiku Noir on Madness

back home after work—
on my fresh-painted front door
a bloody hand print

their promises are lies—
there’s no one in the mirror
again today

peering from the street
the mailman must know too much
he’ll have to go too

Haiku Noir on War

grenade in flight—
my enemy’s face
suddenly reminds me of . . .

after the shell blast—
a wet warmth . . .
a spreading chill

war talk—
those who do not know
imagine glory

Haiku Noir on Crime

ice storm
the glitter in
a killer’s eye

stone still
on the church steps—
no one’s son

homeless no more—
the soles of his shoes
white with frost

Haiku Noir on Lust

this caveman rhythm
our common pulse more needful
than water or salt

roundness in my palm,
silky smoothness drives my blood
and, ah!, the rough spots

your heat on my thigh
up from the depths
boiling springs

"As things are, and as fundamentally they must always be, poetry is not a career, but a mug's game. No honest poet can ever feel quite sure of the permanent value of what he has written: He may have wasted his time and messed up his life for nothing." T.S.Eliot
