This document, Tanka Templates, includes syllabic templates for formal tanka — “Tanka Length – Three Styles,” a one page handout, and the three page article “Tanka Form: Lineation & Line Length as Criteria of Tanka Form.” This is a PDF file.
Please notice and heed the advice that tanka should not be written slavishly to formula. The point of these templates is to clarify visually the common variations on the form when written in English. It should, one hopes, help the reader decide on a starting place for his or her own experimentations with tanka form. The three page article has been published also in TANKA TEACHERS GUIDE.
